In this drawing, Marji seems to have double identities. As you can see on the left side of the drawing it has a modern background in contrast to the right side of the drawing which displays a traditional art pattern background. Marji who is standing in the middle has a modern look in the left side of the drawing and is wearing a veil in the right side of the drawying. She is very religious because she grew up in a religious country (origin), therefore changes her values. I wonder if we could have double identity as well, what do you guys think? Is Marji not behaving what her private self tells her to?

Private self VS Public self

In relation to 1984, Winston held rebellious thoughs against the party (private self). yet he obeys the party's instructions (public self) is similar to Marji's situation.

Just a quick thought. This drawing reminded me of 1984 where all the people gather for the two minutes hate, and they raise their hands up to protest. The slogan "DOWN WITH THE KING" reminded me of what Winston wrote in his diary "DOWN WITH BIG BROTHER."
